Courlander's Almanac No.3: Familiar Music in Strange Places

A radio program from 1956 hosted by ethnomusicologist Harold Courlander, who recorded tons of stuff for Folkways. I've had this record for years, but it was recently released on CD by Smithsonian Folkways, so this will only be here for a little while. It's a real hoot!

Presented for your listening pleasure now, a mix of Indian soundtrack music featuring all your fave composers (Kalyanji-Ananji, R.D. Burman, Bappi Lahiri, Shankar Jaikishan, etc.), playback singers (Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, etc.), and movies (Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Satyam Shivam Sundarum, Professor Pyarelal, Jewel Thief, etc.). Sound quality is not so good, all apologies, due to the many less-than-pristine vinyl LPs used, and the fact that some transfers are from cassettes from the discount bin at the local Indian grocery. EQ is overrated, anyway.
